Looking for in the wild... Dallas County, IA, residents... The Dallas County Conservation Board and I need your help. We are doing an assessment of the County's Bull Snake population. For the past 4 years, only one live Bull Snake has been seen. The snakes we have investigated have turned out to be Fox Snakes. We think the Bull Snake is in a major state of decline in several counties. Pictured below are the Fox Snake and Bull Snake, for comparison identification.

If you know of areas where you see Bull Snakes, please contact the Dallas County Conservation Board at 515-465-3577, or Allen Anderson at (515) 981-5568, (C) (515) 631-0734. I do independent and volunteer field research work in Warren, Madison, Polk and Dallas Counties.
Blanding's Turtle
Pictured is a Blanding's Turtle. It is a large aquatic turtle, bigger than a Painted Turtle, as an adult. The Blanding's Turtle has disappeared in Dallas County. We are searching for this turtle, as well.
No snakes or turtles will be taken. We are simply assessing their population status; where found, and photographed. Declining status is due to habitat loss, primarily.
