I grew up in Highland Park (north Des Moines). When I was 15 years old, I started working at this grocery store, owned by Bill Lutz. Merlin Linn was the Produce Manager. I worked with Merlin getting the produce ready for sale. Back then, almost nothing came pre-cleaned, and packaged. It wasn’t unusual to find cool spiders and some small lizards in the boxes of produce, especially bananas. I worked there for a little over a year. I am so pleased that Merlin and his daughter have agreed to help me feed the turtles. I guess you could call this coming “full-circle”, with this generous business!

Heins Design
I first met Jennifer and Steffen Heins through Bob Myers, now the retired Director of the Dallas County Conservation Board. The Heins family took me out a number of times looking for reptiles and amphibians, on their extensive rural property, that borders Voas Nature Area, as well as other interesting habitat. Jen and I worked together on my website concepts and design. I appreciate her advice and all of the creative work it took her to get my website completed!
